Parish Profile

Clyst St. Mary, situated 4 miles to the east of Exeter and the M5, is the largest Parish in the United Benefice with a population of 1200, whose employment opportunities are mostly based in Exeter. The village has a good shop containing a Post Office, a public house, a Primary school, a large well used village hall and several small businesses including a garage and car sales.
It is a village of 3 parts, the ‘old village’ north of the A3052, Winslade Park Estate south of the road and about a mile down the road the Cat and Fiddle Residential Park whose residents are mostly retired. Between the Cat and Fiddle and the rest of the village lies Westpoint home to Devon County Agricultural Association where the annual 3 day Devon County Show is held.
Close to the church lies a complex of commercial buildings used by Friends Provident and Defra. The Church itself is mainly a Victorian adaptation of a much older building with an unusual North Altar. It seats about 120 and is in very good order. Our stewardship scheme and Friends of Clyst St. Mary help to raise money for the church.
